poet and professor Bronwen Tate on the "beautiful exhaustion" of life with small children and how her daughter's artwork reminds her that "ideas come in the making"
This is so lovely. The sensory, as the Aurist's interview with Paul Lynch just discussed, is so essential to writing. Kids have it naturally - and yet somehow, somewhere, it can get hard to access as an adult. It's on my brain today...
Yes to the inspiration of kids’ art! I so miss the days when my home was graced with it. Vesper’s art brings it all back. It’s incredible. The taylor swift sekshin! 😍
isn't it amazing? I keep pictures from my kids, especially my younger son, on my bulletin board by my desk for the same reason--I just love how fearless kids are about making art.
right? so much energy--but somehow in a way that's calming, rather than stressful. I think it's Bronwen's insistence on creative practice rather than production that I especially love.

On my desk I have a 3D cardboard house that my son made for me. The only rooms are a kitchen and a library—ha! He knew me well, even as a little kid.
oh I love that—and what a recognition of you as a person!
Nancy, I loved loved loved getting to know Bronwen Tate (and what energy)!
