oh yay! congrats on the novel! you must have Courtney Maum's Before and After the Book Deal, right? that's where I first learned about the genre of the off-the-book essay, and I've started keeping a list of ideas for my spring 2025 nonfiction book.
The only thing worse than getting rejected is seeing the place you pitched to use the EXACT story idea you suggest a month later, written by one of their other writers. Yep, still bitter about that one!
I found this post to not only be very helpful in terms of pitching advice (thank you for including a sample!) but also to have great bonus content about writing residencies. I appreciate your generous sharing.
It's becoming a second nature to be. Not as if I don't feel it negatively anymore, I still do but I am handling it well these days. Serving as study topics to me these days.
