Love this Nancy! I think a lot about intentions in this liminal late-August, pre-September/school space. And I am SO making a sticker chart a la Catherine Newman, who I love. Will gladly share this in my newsletter, The Proem, as well!
Thanks, Elline! And as much as I think new systems aren't the answer, I also love that sticker chart! And chances are, lots of us have cute stickers hanging around, right?
Yes, if kids are around, we do! (As an aside, I just saw a 'house tour' (where, though?) she participated in and there's something about her radical honesty in both domains I just love.) I clicked on your post about charting and will read next, since keeping closer track is very much on my mind. Wishing you a good fresh start ahead!
This was a great response. I'm also very into Sara's blog and what I see as a growing trend of pushback/analysis of social & gendered narratives around home/housekeeping. I had her next piece about laundry already open on my computer. Hope we'll see more of this stance.
Love Heather’s work and love this conversation! So much to think about. I fully admit to getting swept up in back to school/need new systems overwhelm and appreciate this reminder that I don’t need to reorganize every room in my house/aspect of my life right now (when book revisions are due in a week, ack).
oh the desire to reorganize/resystem everything is so real! and so much more alluring than hard work like book revisions, or proposal revisions in my case! happy almost done with your book so the rest of us can read it season!

I bet it was her house tour on Cup of Jo! https://cupofjo.com/2022/08/09/catherine-newman-house-tour/
And then Sara Petersen did a great piece on it: https://sarapetersen.substack.com/p/this-hour-tour-made-me-cry

Yes, this was it! I loved the joyful, honest idiosyncrasies.
