write with me this fall!
applications open now for an 8-week online poetry workshop
Welcome to Write More! This is the your mid-month pop-in. It typically comes with ideas, encouragement, and writing prompts to keep you going, but in the spirit of August, I’ve kept this one very short. I also send out a monthly intentions email on the last Sunday before a new month starts that aims to help you think through your goals and intentions for your writing practice in the coming month and to reflect on your progress in the previous month.
Hi, all! I went to the beach for a whole week and got a pretty significant sunburn striped down my right leg and saw a ton of dolphins and took not a single picture of them. Please accept this photo of my child boogie boarding instead.
Today’s newsletter will be quick: I wanted to share an online poetry workshop I’ll be teaching this fall that I think readers of this newsletter will especially like. It’s an 8-week Foundations of Poetry course through Philadelphia’s Blue Stoop, and it’s going to focus on poetry as a practice of attention. The workshop will build on the approach from this past April’s daily exercises and experiments. Whether you’re new to writing poetry or looking to enrich your creative practice, you’ll find fun, generative writing exercises, practical approaches to revision, and a supportive writing community.
Applications are due August 30. You don’t have to live in the Philadelphia area to participate, but there is financial aid available for writers in the Greater Philadelphia area. The link to apply is here. (And the rest of Blue Stoop’s fall class lineup also looks great!) Feel free to email me with questions about the workshop. I’d love to have you join us.
I’ll be back next Sunday the 28th with the September monthly intentions email. In reality, I’m at a suburban Panera, but in my heart, I’m still down the shore.
Write More, Be Less Careful is a newsletter about why writing is hard & how to do it anyway. How is your summer writing life going? What are you looking forward to this fall? Reply to this email, comment below, or find me on twitter (@nancy_reddy) and instagram (@nancy.o.reddy).
