I listened to this podcast, from NPR’s Life Kit, on creativity and getting unstuck with my students earlier this week and thought I would share it here.
One thing that seems especially relevant in this moment is the benefit of mind-wandering. The podcast notes that “Research also shows that mind-wandering is a critical step in creative thinking, especially for those who have hit a roadblock.”
One recommendation for letting your mind wander? Go for a walk. (Science says so!)
today’s exercise
Walk a different route. This could be as small as parking in a different spot or walking through a different hallway during your work day. See what you notice when you switch up your routine.
If you want to write, you might be on the lookout for some Real Things. Or you could just let a little space into your brain.
